Reference standard/Citation style
It is important to cite sources when writing a text. In order to do so correctly, you must follow the rules of a chosen reference standard. The reference standard tells you how to make an in-text citation and a reference for the reference list.

Using a reference management tool can be a big help to keep track of sources.
A reference management tool is basically a database containing sources with all necessary data (author, year, publisher etc.) to make in-text citations and references correctly in a chosen reference standard. Data can either be imported from compatible resources or made manually.
Most commonly, in-text citations and references are inserted into Microsoft Word by installing and using a plugin.
